Nuclear Physics with Stable and Radioactive Ion Beams F. Gramegna 2019-05-13 The field of radioactive ion beam research has evolved over the last three decades, and several sizeable facilities are currently undergoing a major upgrade or are under construction. In Europe, these include ISOLDE - CERN (Switzerland), SPIRAL2 - GANIL (France), FAIR - GSI (Germany) and SPES (Italy) while RIBF - RIKEN (Japan), TRIUMF (Canada) and FRIB - MSU (USA) are the major undertakings elsewhere. These will create unprecedented opportunities to extend our knowledge in as yet unexplored regions of the nuclear chart, and address key questions in nuclear physics, fundamental interactions, and astrophysics, as well as linking to other fields of science including life science. This book presents material from the 201st International School of Physics Enrico Fermi, entitled: Nuclear Physics with Stable and Radioactive Ion Beams and held in Varenna, Italy, from 14 – 19 July 2017.The lectures and seminars of this school focused on structural and dynamic aspects from both a theoretical and experimental point of view, and among the recent advances discussed in the 14 full-length contributions included here are: advanced shell-model, density functional applications and symmetry-based methods, as well as cluster and reaction models. A dedicated session was organized to mark the 90th birthday of Professor R.A. Ricci, and focused on his pioneering work in nuclear structure. He was, in particular, one of the founders of heavy-ion-induced reaction studies devoted to deepening knowledge of nuclear structure and dynamics. The International School of Physics Enrico Fermi has a worldwide reputation, and the book will be of interest to all those working in the field.

Post-Hegemonic Regionalism in the Americas José Briceño-Ruiz 2017-01-20 Regionalism in Latin America and the Caribbean has experienced transformations over the last few years. After more than a decade of a hegemonic model based solely on free-market principles, the regional and global transformation that occurred in the first decade of the new millennium modified the way of understanding economic development and the insertion of regional blocs in global affairs. Old initiatives have been reconsidered, new schemes have emerged, and new principles going beyond trade issues have modified the norms and processes of regional economic integration. This book reviews these recent transformations to depict and explain the new trends shaping regional blocs and cooperation in the Americas.

Nobody’s Supposed to Be Here Claude Joseph 2021-05-19 Ask yourself this question? If good girls like the bad boys, then who do the nice guys like? Of course, the science is not definitive, but the answer may lie within this story..... This is a story of a millionaire in New Orleans who seems to have it all, but what you don’t know is that he has a fatal flaw; he’s attracted to the wrong women. The ones that smell like trouble from a mile away, and this one in particular had her demons on her shoulders. She wore them like a badge of honor. She has a Borderline Personality Disorder, pulling several weights of troubling history, and evil agendas. Her name is Andrea Locket, the alluring beauty who poses as a dainty maid for hire to get what and who she wants. Eliminating anyone who stands in her way. But why would a man fall for a woman with so much baggage? Why didn’t he just run the other way? I’m glad you asked because I know you are curious about the reason why. But nothing is just black and white, there is always some grey. There’s usually much more to things than we can see. That is why you must take this journey with me to where it all began. The man in is story is me, Lonnie Guy, who invites you to take a ride with me on this erotic, wild journey of how she became who she is; and why I stayed.
New Voices of Arabia: The Short Stories Abdulaziz Al-Sebail 2012-03-15 The formation of Saudi Arabia in 1932, with the unification of the two Kingdoms of the Hejaz and Nejd, not only unified parts of the Arabian peninsula which had until then remained disparate, loosely related ethnic and tribal groupings, but also led to the development of a distinct Saudi Arabian literature. In an era when Arab culture was challenging the traditional literary norms in which, for centuries, poetry had been dominant, the new Arab cultural space permitted aspirational writers in the new Saudi country to experiment and develop their skills with prose. The result was a flowering of short-story writing through the twentieth century. Ranging from the classical to the modern and highly experimental, this anthology brings together 40 short story writers representing different traditions and sensibilities. Whether exploring social reform or describing the alienation of the individual in a rapidly changing environment, replete with constraints and contradictions, the clash of traditions and modernity remains a constant theme recurring in most stories. This highly unusual book thus presents a remarkably illuminating insight into the complex and enigmatic setting which is Saudi Arabia today.
Now! Paul Santy 2020-11-30 In my concern for the spiritual state of the world, I felt compelled to share my life story where I felt there was a progression toward the holy spirit ever so gradually but at least it was a progression. I did explore various ways of life. As a high school student, I was happy to be university-bound. As a university student, I was happy to explore freethinking as well as pursue dance, which was a repressed desire ever so gradually coming towards fruition. This art form brought another dimension of self-discovery through choreography and performing, and through the people that I met. This led to a spiritual conversion which is exemplified by a trip to Israel and the fruits that it brought forth.
NightShade Forensic FBI Files: Garden of Bone (Book 6) A.J. Scudiere 2018-11-08 Your favorite NightShade agents are back, only Eleri and Donovan are now on their own. This time they aren’t working with the FBI, and the case is as personal as it can get… FBI Agent Eleri Eames was there the day her sister disappeared at eight years old. However, Eleri is the only one who knows that her sister is already dead and has been for quite some time. When a skeleton is unearthed in New Orleans, Eleri is convinced it belongs to Emmaline. The age and ancestry of the remains are a match, and there’s something telling Eleri that New Orleans is the place where her sister lived and died. As Eleri hunts for answers, demons—old and new—begin following her. The Lobomau have been entering the city in ever-increasing numbers, and that might just have something to do with the Dauphine sisters and their long family history of witchcraft and voodoo. Eleri desperately needs her partner Donovan on this case with her, but can he risk his own job to help her? Eleri’s ancestry may have imbued her with some powers, but compared to her own great-grandmother and the Dauphines, she’s untrained and untested at best. When the bones turn out not to belong to her sister, Eleri has to ask how a case so similar to Emmaline’s even exists…and is it an arrow pointed to her own twisted family history? Nollywood on the Pulpit Sarah Peace 2020-05-26 Nollywood on the Pulpit: Performance in Pentecostalism examines the performative strategies and material forms intrinsic to the expansion of the Pentecostal movement in Nigeria. Although a global phenomenon, Pentecostalism is reimagined locally in ways that reflect its boundless expansive potential. Its explosion in Nigeria echoes a blueprint created by native messianic forbearers who initiated the cult of the prophet, now prevalent in modern Pentecostalism. Their influence presents a compelling case study for understanding the emergent artistic forms within the movement which serve to both inform and reflect broader popular culture trends. Utilising Nollywood's melodramatic trope as a framework, Pentecostalism is explored through its key players; the flamboyant preachers, charismatic women worshippers, gay men in the choir and miracle performers in the congregation, looking at how each negotiates space within the church, wielding power through performance. Scholarship of the Pentecostalism is often concerned with critiques of power with emphasis on the proliferation of the prosperity doctrine as a response to dismal socio-economic realities. However, these perspectives neglect the value in what the charismatic movement offers to a contemporary audience - recognising the role of the Pentecostal church as a stage for expression in which performance can be an end in itself. "Peace' use of Nigerian parlance and colloquialism brings this story to life, giving this serious academic work a dramatic edge. Laying out this work in a way that is meaningful, enthralling and gripping, she excavated revelatory facts and stunned our senses with insightful reflections by making modern linkages between performance, magic and Pentecostalism." - Dr Toyin Ajao Public scholar and founder of iAfrika Centre for Holistic Research and Praxis
In Shakespeare's Shadow Michael Blanding 2021-03-30 The true story of a self-taught sleuth's quest to prove his eye-opening theory about the source of the world's most famous plays, taking readers inside the vibrant era of Elizabethan England as well as the contemporary scene of Shakespeare scholars and obsessives. What if Shakespeare wrote Shakespeare . . . but someone else wrote him first? Acclaimed author of The Map Thief, Michael Blanding presents the twinning narratives of renegade scholar Dennis McCarthy and Elizabethan courtier Sir Thomas North. Unlike those who believe someone else secretly wrote Shakespeare, McCarthy argues that Shakespeare wrote the plays, but he adapted them from source plays written by North decades before. In Shakespeare's Shadow alternates between the enigmatic life of North, the intrigues of the Tudor court, the rivalries of English Renaissance theater, and academic outsider McCarthy's attempts to air his provocative ideas in the clubby world of Shakespearean scholarship. Through it all, Blanding employs his keen journalistic eye to craft a captivating drama, upending our understanding of the beloved playwright and his "singular genius." Legal Institutions and Collective Memories Susanne Karstedt 2009-08-03 In recent decades the debate among scholars, lawyers, politicians and others about how societies deal with their past has been constant and intensive. 'Legal Institutions and Collective Memories' situates the processes of transitional justice at the intersection between legal procedures and the production of collective and shared meanings of the past. Building upon the work of Maurice Halbwachs, this collection of essays emphasises the extended role and active involvement of contemporary law and legal institutions in public discourse about the past, and explores their impact on the shape that collective memories take in the course of time. The authors uncover a complex pattern of searching for truth, negotiating the past and cultivating the art of forgetting. Their contributions explore the ambiguous and intricate links between the production of justice, truth and memory. The essays cover a broad range of legal institutions, countries and topics. These include transitional trials as 'monumental spectacles' as well as constitutional courts, and the restitution of property rights in Central and Eastern Europe and Australia. The authors explore the biographies of victims and how their voices were repressed, as in the case of Korean Comfort Women. They explore the role of law and legal institutions in linking individual and collective memories in the transitional period through processes of lustration, and they analyse divided memories about the past and their impact on future reconciliation in South Africa. The collection offers a genuinely comparative approach, allied to cutting-edge theory
