Dutch Shea, Jr. John Gregory Dunne 2013-12-12 “Dunne’s bravura plotting asserts an exhilarating mastery.” —The New York Times Book Review. In John Gregory Dunne’s celebrated third novel, Los Angeles-based criminal defense attorney Dutch Shea, Jr. struggles to keep from falling apart after an act of terrorist violence strikes his family, the loss pushing him towards a confrontation with his past and into a mystery involving the death of his father, a felon who died in prison. Set in L.A. and Dunne’s hometown of Hartford, Connecticut, the novel follows Shea into a labyrinth of deception, corruption, and criminal malice. Fighting to keep a host of disturbing memories tamped down, Shea plunges into his legal work, one embedding him in a world of scammers and burglars, pimps and prostitutes, corrupt cops and shady private eyes. With unrivaled detail and pitch-black humor, Dunne takes us into police precincts and criminal courtrooms, judge’s chambers and city morgues. The novel’s deft noir touches will remind readers of Raymond Chandler and Dashiell Hammett, while Dunne’s command of legal dynamics and police procedures anticipates fiction by Scott Turow, John Grisham and Michael Connelly. Introducing a sweeping cast of two dozen vivid characters, including Shea’s sometime girlfriend, a judge who packs a pistol under her robe, Dutch Shea, Jr. - a Zola e-book exclusive - is a gripping, bleakly funny exploration of a fallen world through which its past-haunted hero weaves, beset from within and without, for a series of fraught days.

Creaselightning Mark Bolitho 2020-11-13 Creaselightning was my third collection of models. It followed from Origami Projects and More Origami projects. The premise of the book was to develop a book around folding techniques rather than what the model was. The project explores folding techniques and different styles of folding. Central to the book is the question "How do I fold?" rather than, "What am I folding?". For most of the projects the folding journey should be as interesting as the destination. I have tried to avoid complexity and kept all the models as simple and elegant as possible. My main consideration is producing models that are enjoyable to make. The next section starts to explore some of the themes in the book and gives a bit more background to the models themselves and why I have included them. Most of all, if you have got this far, I hope you enjoy the origami. It took several years to develop the models and ideas in Creaselightning. If you have any thoughts or comments, do let me know.In 2004 I embarked on working full time as an origami designer. This has given me many more opportunities to write and develop origami books. Although many of these were commissions and designed in conjunction with the respective publishers.

The Old Yellow House Joyce Wright 2018-11-11 Tyro, Mississippi. Once a thriving community, but like most rural towns go, it dwindled to just close neighbors and a few churches. The oldest house there had fallen into ruin. The man who farmed upon the land had passed. The heirs came together to sell the property.A young family saw an opportunity to homestead in this quiet, loving area. Everyone was so welcoming. But since the house was in shambles, it took close to a year, just to get it livable. After moving into the house, they decided to cheer it up by painting it yellow and trimming it in white. Upon a hill it sat fairly close to the main road leading through Tyro. Little did the young couple know that they were not the only "ones" to occupy the house. Unseen and seen forces began to plague them and their visitors. This truer than life story discloses events that at times stretches the imagination from believing to speculation.
Zen drawing - a new way to become an artist Michelle Dujardin 2014-07-25 This eBook is derived from the hardcover book called 'the Zen drawing Pack', which was published in October 2014 by Rockpoint publishers and as an eBook called 'The Zen drawing eBook' by the authors. In this eBook called 'Zen drawing - a new way to become an artist', the authors have put less emphasis on the Zen Buddhism background of Zen drawing and more emphasis on the artistic benefits that can be found by using the techniques described in the hardcover book. For instance by adding a chapter on the use of watercolors and ink. As with all their books on Zen drawing, this eBook is based on the works of Frederick Franck and Betty Edwards. In this eBook artist Michelle Dujardin helps you to awaken your inner artist and add soul to your sketches by ignoring conventional drawing techniques and focus on really seeing your subject. Michelle helps you achieve a meditative state just by changing the way you see a subject, and allow your hands to follow the movement of your eyes. When you trust your own drawing reflex, the art that you create will become more expressive and beautiful than what you've done before. Not great with a pencil? Don't worry, everyone can learn to draw this way and you don't need any special talent or class. For any level of artist, from a beginner with little talent to an illustration expert, Zen drawing is not about making perfect pictures, it is about the experience of drawing, finding inspiration, and connecting to the world around you.

The Moment Of Movement Lynne Anne Blom 1988-12-15 Dance improvisation, the intriguing phenomenon of the creative process alive in the moving body, exists powerfully, sublimely - lending insight, solving problems, allowing moments of transcendence, diversion, and delight. Flourishing especially since the postmodern movement of the 1960s, it has come into its own in the performing arts. While there are many books containing ideas for developing improvisations, few have tackled the difficult questions: “What is dance improvisation?” “How does it work?” or “What is its body of knowledge?” The Moment of Movement goes beyond lists of improvisations and into the heart of improvising. As in their previous book, The Intimate Act of Choreography, the authors pursue both the philosophical and the practical. They begin by examining the creative process as it applies to movement and especially the kinesthetic way in which the body knows and uses movement. They answer the often unstated and pertinent questions of the novice; investigate the particular skills and traits needed by the leader; consider ways of working with specific populations; and provide challenging material for advanced movers. They discuss the use of music, and the specific situation of improvisation in performance. For leaders who want to design their own improvisations, they trace the evolution of an idea into an actual content and structure. They also address the controversial issue of the legitimacy of improvisation in an academic curriculum. A final chapter presents hundreds of improvs and improv ideas, grouped into units and cross-referenced. The Moment of Movement is not tied to any one point of view. The authors’ presentation of a broad range of material is flexible enough for use by choreographers, directors, educators, and therapists. In its perceptive investigation of the experiential and conceptual aspects of dance improvisation, this book articulates the ephemeral.
Water+Ink Coloring Book Winter 2020 Kim Winberry 2019-07-22 I begin my paintings with a sketch and application of colorful/bright pigment and water to the paper. I disrupt the blends with salt or water, watching as one color blossoms in water, as another color starts to travel across the paper. I utilize India Ink to demarcate changes, also adding add swirls other artifacts, in the aim to achieve whimsy. My coloring books are my paintings! I run the paintings through filters and drop the color from them, leaving the lines so that you can add your own color. But wait, there's more... I've added an Augmented Reality component to this. Wonder what colors I used for that piece in the corner there? Take out your phone, download the Zappar app from your app store and "zap" the code. What happens? At the very least an image of the original painting will pop up and you can see what it looks like, side by side with the coloring page. Beyond that, you'll meet Mist, my liaison to the AR world. She will be a recurring character in all my AR work. Stay tuned and enjoy.
