Before You Even Open Your Mouth Elizabeth Coursen 2015-04-20 Don't Shoot Yourself in the Foot Before You Even Open Your Mouth! The Writing Guide for Professional Speakers. Do you want to become a professional public speaker, someone who gets paid to speak in public about topics you are passionate about? If so, I've got good news and bad news. The bad news is that it's a crowded ole world out there-every Tom, Dick, and Harriet seem to be a "professional" speaker, armed with a book, a blog, and a boatload of subject-matter expertise. The good news is that only a few of these "professionals" can spell or even construct a correct sentence in American English. Look around! If you want to stand out, if you want to impress potential hosts, if you want to get hired again and again, then you have to recognize that your written words will probably be read before your spoken words are heard. In other words, your written words have to be flawless. In Before You Even Open Your Mouth, nine-time, award-winning author and public speaker Liz Coursen shares her expertise about how to write to impress. Liz speaks professionally 80-100 times each year, and part of her success, she believes, is the attention to detail she brings to every aspect of her speaking, including her promotional materials. "Punctuation and grammar is easy, and it's fun," she says. "And, since our writing is part of how people judge us, it's important for every professional speaker to know how to write well."

Small Ball Don Geidel 2016-09-11 September 11th, 2001 was America's wake up call to terrorism. Unfortunately, we hit the snooze alarm. The next wave of terror attacks won't be nation shaking, cataclysmic events. We're ready for that. Instead, they'll be minor, localized nightmares. Mere pinpricks to our country, but catastrophic to the small towns that find themselves in the crosshairs. Worst of all, there's nothing we can do to stop it from happening - or is there? A gritty novel extrapolated from real world events, this fast-paced, riveting thriller will leave you alarmed, angry, and awestruck at America's unpreparedness for the next wave of terror attacks. Some might refer to it as death by a thousand cuts, but the counterterrorism community calls it Small Ball. Small Ball is an indictment of our woefully wrongheaded security infrastructure and a testament to the resilience, resourcefulness, and integrity of the average American. You'll wonder why it hasn't happened already. Perhaps it's happening right now...

Will liberty and justice return for all?

The Vagrant Thoughts of a Wandering Man Mathews Abraham Athiyalil 2017-01-16 In this bouquet of poems I present to you my humble thoughts in simple words on a variety of topics. I have sung about the beauty of love. I have tried to let you hear the sighs and sobs in silence of struggling and suffering people. I have expressed my concerns about our planet and the need to keep it clean and green. I have written about the bond between God and man and his despair despite the prayers he raises. I have also shown the dark side of humanity wondering how man can oppress, exploit, enslave and kill others and sadly, try to justify it. Here, you can hear the muffled, dying cries of a new born girl child. Some songs are my thoughts that loved to wander far on the wide wings of the flying wind. Through most of the poems on social themes I am appealing to the conscience of the people to abandon violence particularly against women, children and the weak and to build a beautiful world of peace and love. May the humorous poems bring a smile on your face and laughter in your soul. Hope you will enjoy reading the book.

Dispatches from the War Zone Mike Rhodes 2016-02-04 Exposing the social and political landscape of homelessness in Fresno, Dispatches from the War Zone offers the reader a rare opportunity to understand this issue from the perspective of the homeless, their allies and an investigative journalist who closely followed this story for more than 10 years. What at first appeared to be builders and developers working with Fresno City Hall and the police to move the homeless to more remote areas of town turns into something else entirely. We find government corruption, a class action lawsuit against the city for its unconstitutional attacks against the homeless and the suspicious death of Pamela Kincaid, the lead plaintiff in the legal action. Originally, it was the federal government's de-funding of affordable housing in the early 1980s that led to today's homeless crisis. The book examines those structural reasons for homelessness but also looks at what grassroots groups in Fresno, working on alternatives, have accomplished. Although the end to homelessness has been elusive for those groups doing business as usual, the paradigm shifts this book suggests give new hope that a better world is possible. There is a pathway to ending homelessness and treating all people with the dignity and respect they deserve.

Shelters, Shacks and Shanties Daniel Carter Beard 2015-09-11 ÊIf my present reader happens to be a Boy Scout or a scout-master who wants the scouts to build a tower for exhibition purposes, he can do so by following the directions here given, but if there is real necessity for haste in the erection of this tower, of course we cannot build one as tall as we might where we have more time. With a small tower all the joints may be quickly lashed together with strong, heavy twine, rope, or even wire; and in the wilderness it will probably be necessary to bind the joints with pliable roots, or cordage made of bark or withes; but as this is not a book on woodcraft we will suppose that the reader has secured the proper material for fastening the joints of the frame of this signal-tower and he must now shoulder his axe and go to the woods in order to secure the necessary timber. First let him cut eight straight polesÑthat is, as straight as he can find them. These poles should be about four and one half inches in diameter at their base and sixteen and one half feet long. After all the branches are trimmed off the poles, cut four more sticks each nine feet long and two and a half or three inches in diameter at the base; when these are trimmed into shape one will need twenty six or seven more stout sticks each four and one half feet long for braces and for flooring for the platform.
