This WWI tanks paper model is the Frot-Laffly Landship, created by CT Ertz and from landships. The Frot-Laffly landship, also Frot-Turmel-Laffly landship, was an early French experimental tank, or landship, designed and built from December 1914 to March 1915, preceding the design and development of the English Little Willie tank by about nine months.
The French Army early in WW1 concluded that barbed wire entanglements were the main obstacle to infantry attacks. A number of vehicles were prototyped with the objective of flattening barbed wire. The Frot-Laffly Landship was perhaps the most logical, although it was totally useless for conditions on the Western Front. The landship was based on a Laffly petrol engined road roller with an armoured shell constructed around the original vehicle. Although it could flatten barbed wire its trench crossing capability was non-existent. Only one prototype was constructed.
