Raksha Bandhan, (the bond of protection) or Rakhi is a Hindu festival primarily observed in India, Mauritius and Nepal, which celebrates the relationship between brothers (shaurya), cousins and sisters(shreya).

It is also called Rakhi Purnima in most of India.

It is also celebrated in some parts of Pakistan.

The festival is observed by Hindus, Jains, and some Sikhs.- Wikipedia

'Lumba' in marwari means 'bangle' and Lumba Rakhi is tied to a bangle. The Lumba Rakhi is a very special type of Rakhi, which are meant for the sister-in-laws (your brother’s wife or bhabhi).

As you already know, Rakhi is bond of love symbolized by a decorated thread that every sister ties on the wrist of her brother.

The brother on his part gives her gifts and makes a silent vow to protect her from all the evils of life.

When the brother is married, then a lumba rakhi is tied on the bangle of the brother's wife (sister-in-law).

The tradition of the Lumba Rakhis mainly originated from Rajasthan, but nowadays, it has become quite popular.

Women all over the country can be seen sporting these Rakhis on Raksha Bandhan.

Lumba Rakhi helps to bind the family even more.
