This paper model is designed by paper-replika. The Defender Class boats are assigned to the Maritime Safety and Security Teams (MSST), the Maritime Security Response Team (MSRT), Marine Safety Units (MSU), and to boat stations throughout the coastal United States. The Defender Class boats have proven to be very capable for conducting multiple missions in a small deployable package. This is evidenced by the fact that several Defender Class boats are already in operation for harbor security missions by other Department of Homeland Security agencies and local law enforcement agencies, as well as foreign military services.
The United States Coast Guard uses the RB-S at various shore units in order to perform ports, waterways, and coastal security (PWCS); search and rescue (SAR); drug interdiction (DRUG); alien migrant interdiction operations (AMIO); living marine resources (LMR); defense readiness (DR); and law enforcement (OLE) missions.
The RB-S is designed to operate in shallow waters along coastal borders and is intended for year round use. The boat will have an overall length up to twenty-five feet with two outboard engines. It will have a maximum speed of at least 40 knots and a range of 150 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 25 knots. The RB-S will be transportable by either trailer or C-130, and will have a service life of ten years.
