This paper craft is the Louis Hartlooper Complex Pop-Up, designed by Annelies Smit. The Louis Hartlooper Complex is a special building in Utrecht. Many Utrechters may despise people from Amsterdam, but the Amsterdam School was once incredibly popular. The Louis Hartlooper Complex is a great example of this. Built in 1926, the former police station is a state monument designed by Utrecht city architect J. I. Planjer.
These days it houses a movie and cultural centre. The group of buildings was named after Louis Hartlooper, a colourful personality who was famous in Utrecht’s movie scene. The Louis Hartlooper Complex, which mainly shows art-house movies, has four screens and is also used for debates, courses and exhibitions. It is a state monument built in the Amsterdam School style and used to house a police station.
In addition to movies and art, the Louis Hartlooper Complex also serves delicious coffee, alcoholic drinks and excellent food. Furthermore, it has a wonderful terrace where you can relax in summer. The building is located next to the Tolsteegbrug 1, not far from the Oudegracht.
