This ship paper model is a Kapal Otok-otok, an Indonesian traditional, hand-made toy, built from metal sheet, formed as a ship and equipped with some kind of engine which makes it possible for the ship to go forward in the water, the papercraft created by AnisNChris via Rumah Kertas.
The engine itself fueled by heated air inside the pipes that mounted in the ship. The air are heated by simple burning-oiled-cotton placed inside the back of the ship.
This toy are very popular around Indonesian kids in the era of 1980’s. Today, it’s still available to buy this toy during a traditional festival, i.e. “Perayaan Sekaten” in Yogyakarta. [via AnisNChris]
