This paper toy is designed by canon papercraft. This is an original game based on the traditional Japanese fan tossing game, "tosenkyo." Tosenkyo (also called Toshinkyo) is a traditional Japanese fan-tossing game where players try to knock a target off a wooden stand by tossing an open folding fan.
The game originated in the 18th Century after a gambler was trying to take a nap and a butterfly bothered him. He tossed his fan at the annoying butterfly but missed several times. His failure though gave him an idea for a new game which was called Tosenkyo.
It was at first more of a rowdy game for sake drinking parties with more than a little gambling going on. Later the game was refined and became more of sophisticated parlor game.
Scoring is based on how the fan and target land and can range from 1-50 points. The name of the points are called after sections of The Tale of the Genji, an 11th Century literary classic.
