This paper model is a simple Pirate Cutlass, an 18th century pirate's favorite weapon, the papercraft created by ravensblight. The short length was ideal for battles
in confined spaces and the extra width provided weight for striking like a hatchet.
Straight handguards could get caught in a ship's rigging, so this sword had a small
upper prong and a curved lower handguard instead. The guard was even useful for
punching. All in all, a splendid weapon. Build one for yourself and see if you
don't agree! (Measures an authentic 22 inches with a 17.5 inch blade) [via ravensblight]
